Review :: First Colombian Short Film Festival
+ After Party
Event
Presentation::
Several creative talents derived from countries such as Argentina,
Brazil, and Mexico have largely influenced the world of film.
The quality of theme, visual resourcefulness, and cultural
identity have placed Latin American film in high regard by
contributing works rich in tradition in the arena of cinematography.
This renown recognition earned by Latin American film has
endured the struggle of time and limited budgetary constraints.
Despite all pitfalls and shortcomings, the unique quality
of these works has transcended to become a powerful vehicle
of expression. Drawn upon the root of culture, these films
have crossed barriers to create universal beauty that can
be appreciated from all corners of the world.
It is here where Colombian cinema emerges as one of the most
recognized of this new generation. As such, AGORA SESSIONS
presented the 1st Colombian Short Film Festival honoring cinematographic
contributions in a variety of genres and themes. The event
took place in Los Angeles, California on April 22, 2006. The
short films selected were comedic and tragic pieces greatly
inspired by existing realities prevalent in Colombia today.
Through these productions, filmmakers have given a voice to
show a different perspective of the Colombian culture as opposed
to the conflict and indignity that is usually brought to the
forefront.
